Staff Volunteers
Thank you for your interest in volunteering to help out at GameCon Memphis. Whether you want to run scheduled events or help out in other ways the experience can be rewarding. Of course, there are some challenges to working at a convention. If you are running an event you are expected to be at your table and ready to start at the scheduled time. If you are volunteering to staff an area, we expect you to be there and working it for the hours you've agreed to work.
In addition to people to run scheduled gaming we need volunteers to help out with registration, operations, the con suite, the game library, setup & breakdown, and more. There are a limited number of staff positions, priority for staff volunteers will first go to those volunteers who worked with us last year and then in registration order.
We will make every effort to give you the hours you have requested in the area requested, however, sometimes we will need coverage in different areas and at different times. If your area of choice or time is unavailable, you will be assigned to the next slot closest to your initial preference and a confirmation will be sent to you of the new details. We are willing to work with you on the scheduling to help you get to that panel or game you want to attend, however, there is a small chance that we will be unable to work it out.
In response to coments and requests, we have changed our admission policies for the volunteers. We no longer ask that you pay the full convention rate in advance. If you agree to work 12+ hours, you will get into the convention for free. If you agree to work less, then the discounted rate is all that you owe up front. Nothing else will be owed to us or to you and you are no longer temporarily short that money you'd want to spend elsewhere.
You are also invited to attend our Con Com meetings which are typically held on the first Sunday of each month. Check the schedule for the time and location.
Our benefits for volunteering are:
- GM/Volunteer Appreciation Party
- If you work 4 or more hours, you get into the convention for only $20.
- If you work 8 or more hours, you get into the convention for only $10.
- If you work 12 or more hours, you get into the convention for FREE!
We are pretty flexible with our volunteers, we only expect you to follow these few "common sense" policies:
- Dress Code: The only thing we ask is that you don't wear anything that might offend someone. If your not sure if that t-shirt is offensive wear something else.
- Attitude: Be friendly and courteous. If someone needs help, try to help them or direct them to someone who can help them.
- Please be on time for your shift, or even better, show up a little bit early.
- Remember to take care of yourself. This means getting enough food and rest. Changing clothes and showering each day are also Good Ideas.
